Abstract

This article examines the relationship between railway development and economic growth, population mobility, and settlement patterns in East Sumatra in the 1880s-1930s. This article uses historical methods. This study reveals that the construction of rail lines is related to the needs of planters for modern transportation to transport plantation products. The construction of railway infrastructure was carried out by Deli Spoorweg Maatschappij (DSM), a company formed in 1881 by the manager of Deli Maatschappij, J.T. Cremer. In the period 1883-1937, the DSM built 553,223 kilometers of railroads stretching from Besitang to Rantau Prapat. This transportation can reduce the time and cost of transporting plantation products to the port. The construction of rail line had a tremendous impact on settlement patterns. New residential towns developed rapidly wherever railroad stops were built. After the construction of the rail line, residents began to move from hinterland to new cities.

Abstract

This study examines the problem of student participation in the zoom meeting or google meeting application which includes (1) How is the presence of students in online-based learning through video conference during the Covid-19 pandemic at Faculty of Education Unimed, (2 ) How is Fameta Bahulu^s participation by students every time they take part in online-based learning through video conference during the Covid-19 pandemic at Faculty of Education Unimed and (3) What is the impact of Fameta Bahulu^s participation in online-based learning activities through Video Conference during the Covid-19 pandemic on student learning motivation at Faculty of Education Unimed. The subjects of this study consisted of students in the Academic Year 2019/2020 who had attended lectures in the Even semester of 2019/2020 to Odd Semester 2021-2022, totaling 565 people with a sample of 146 people drawn by random sampling. The data of this study were collected by using a questionnaire instrument with a Likert Scale pattern. The research data was processed by using simple statistical analysis techniques by looking for the percentage (%) and the average value of each item. The results of this study indicate that the presence of respondents in online based learning activities through the Zoom meeting application is relatively high, all respondents always fill in the video conference link that is shared through the WhatsApp group with an average value of 4.93%. However, while in the zoom meeting application, the participation of respondents during online lectures was not entirely active online. There are 55.48% of respondents who off came their camera. This behavior display is categorized as Fameta Bahulu Participation with an average value of 3.52. The findings of this study indicate that face-to-face lectures through the zoom meeting application can open opportunities for students to display Fameta Bahulu^s participation by reducing or even eliminating their participation in face-to-face lea

This study involved 188 students of the Faculty of Economics, Unimed, who had taken Entrepreneurship courses. Data is taken online via google form. This study employed factor analysis (principal component analysis). The research findings from 13 statement instruments obtained two constructs/dimensions. Statements 1 to 10 build the construct/dimension of ^male dominance in the family,^ and statements 11-13 create the construct/dimension of ^male superiority over women.^ The results of this study provide a theoretical contribution to future research to examine the relationship between patriarchal culture and interest in entrepreneurship.

Abstract

Teaching materials in the learning process are an important element in the learning process, because teaching materials are materials that will be delivered. Good teaching materials must be adapted to the goals and competencies expected for students. This study aims to compile teaching materials for weight training courses for students of the Sport Science study program in the form of textbooks. The method used in this research is the development research method. This research activity was carried out at the Faculty of Sports Science, State University of Medan, involving 30 students as samples and 3 experts in the field of sports coaching and 2 exercise physiologists. This research has produced a textbook with the following framework: Management of weight training, How to determine the initial weight of exercise, create an internal and external weight training program, introduction to weight training procedures, variations in weight training for the chest, variations in weight training for the back, variations in weight training for the shoulders, variations in weight training for the front arms, variations weight training for the back arms, variations in weight training for the legs, and variations in weight training for the abdominals, as well as how to select and organize exercises, manipulate training loads, repetition of exercise movements, sets, and rest periods.

Abstract

Science process skills can be applied to students to gain hands-on experience guided directly by the teacher during the learning process. At this time science, and process skills cannot be applied with hands-on experience because learning is carried out online. Student Worksheet-based ICARE can help students in discovering, developing, and also applying material concepts. ICARE has five stages, namely Introduction at this stage explains the outline of the content of the subject matter as a whole, the goals achieved and the time and material needed. This research is aimed at analyzing the ICARE components contained in the student worksheet in improving learning. The analysis used in the form of descriptive statistics aims to see a description of each indicator of ICARE activity. Each indicator is analyzed based on an overview of the data distribution. The descriptive results of the data are continued with linear regression analysis with the Connecting indicator as a dependent variable and other indicators as independent variables. The results show that the ICARE component that plays the most role in learning is Connecting. This component has a very good performance among other components. In addition, the results of the regression test show that there is a positive relationship between the applying and extending components to the connecting component. This is harmony in the implementation of learning as a core activity for students.

Abstract

Ulos has been designated as an Intangible Cultural Heritage on October 8, 2014, through the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Number 270/P/2014. It is also a local cultural resource that contains uniqueness and aesthetic value. The existence of ulos which is very unique and full of aesthetic value has not been worked out in a professional batik artwork. Therefore, this research was conducted to create the ulos motif in the written batik technique. The research methodology used is the method of creating works of art. Art creation research focuses on the practice of producing works of art. A special step in the art creation method is to create a design on drawing paper. The design results from the drawing paper are transferred to the primisima cloth. The existing design on the mori primisima cloth is then implanted. After grafting, then the staining is done using the dabbing technique. The dye used for batik is the reason. After the coloring is complete, fixation is then carried out to lock the color so that it does not dissolve. The fixation material used is water glass. After the fixation was completed, the cloth was washed and deposited for 12 hours, after which the mori cloth was spun (removed wax and water glass). After all the steps are done, then it becomes a mori batik cloth with an ulos motif. The results of the creation of batik art based on the ulos motif are then analyzed using the principles of the fine art design, namely harmony, unity, center of attention, balance, contrast, harmony, simplicity, and clarity.

Abstract

This article talks about Debata Kase-kase, the result of field research on the highest divinity on which the existence of the Pakpak community is based. The Pakpak people, like most of the world^s people, place divinity at the foundation of their existence. This truth is reflected in various rituals and symbols in the Pakpak culture, which document the experience of the revelatory Pakpak ancestors in reality. The research uses a qualitative approach. Data was collected through interviews with traditional leaders as well as in-depth observations of traditional rituals and symbolic objects in the Pakpak community. The collected data was analysed using the circle pattern of Paul Rocoer^s philosophical hermeneutics. The results of data analysis show that the Pakpak people believe that the entire cosmos is surrounded by divine power. These forces are centred on a single power, Debata Kase-kase, as the supreme divinity and therefore the foundation of existence. Pakpak^s traditional beliefs can be classified as natural monism.
