Abstract
Several recent studies have shown that students^ statistical reasoning was still a fairly basic level, namely transitional reasoning. After implementing Project Based Learning (PjBL), statistical reasoning improved at the procedural reasoning level. It will supported by the growth of students^ motivation and self-regulated learning, which is high after implementing PjBL, especially for students at public universities. This study examines in more depth how the comparison of the influence of motivation and self-regulated learning on students^ statistical reasoning using the PjBL at public and private universities. The population of this study was students in the second year of the Mathematics Education Undergraduate Study Program at Universities in Bengkulu City who had taken advanced statistics courses with the PjBL totaling 115 students, namely 61 students at the public university, 54 of students at the private university students. The instruments used motivation and self-regulated learning questionnaires and statistical reasoning tests. Data analysis used path analysis. The report research showed that at public universities, motivation and self-regulated learning impact statistical reasoning through self-regulated learning. While in private universities, motivation and self-regulated learning did not have a direct impact on statistical reasoning.
