Abstract

The mandated transition to the use of biosolar B35 by the Government since February 1, 2023, has presented challenges, particularly regarding maintenance scheduling and costs within PT Pelni (Persero) vessel fuel system. The solvent nature of biosolar B35 in fuel system components requires more frequent maintenance, as neglecting it can lead to decreased engine performance and negative impacts on vessel operational smoothness. This research aims to enhance the reliability and sustainability of vessel fuel systems in compliance with the mandatory use of biosolar B35. The method employed is the Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) approach, which integrates qualitative analysis with Failure Mode, Effects & Criticality Analysis (FMECA) based on the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) rules, and quantitative analysis to determine failure rates and maintenance planning. The research findings indicate that implementing the RCM method effectively optimizes maintenance schedules and reduces maintenance costs in vessel operations. Thus, the research significantly contributes to the maritime industry in achieving the reliability and sustainability of vessel fuel systems, aligning with governmental regulations and environmental requirements.
