Systematic Review of Optimization of Nesting System in Shipbuilding 1) Department of Mechanical Engineering, Universitas Indonesia, Depok 16424, Indonesia Abstract The shipbuilding industry plays a crucial role in the global economy, particularly for archipelagic nations where maritime activities are central to trade. The industry^s focus on optimizing plate cutting processes, particularly through nesting especially for minimizing waste and enhancing material utilization. Nesting is the solution with the strategic arrangement of cutting patterns on steel sheets to maximize material usage, involves selecting the appropriate cutting technology and optimizing the use of steel plates. This process utilizes advanced algorithms that are tailored to specific production needs. This article review focuses on evaluating these algorithms to determine their efficiency in the nesting process. By systematically analyzing different algorithms^ characteristics and performance through several consideration that aim to identify optimal solutions for reducing waste and improving the efficiency of ship construction. The comprehensive analysis indicates that the appropriate integration and application of these algorithms significantly enhance nesting effectiveness, thereby contributing to material savings and production efficiency. This underscores the importance of continuous algorithmic refinement and application in the shipbuilding industry to meet economic and environmental goals.
