Implementation of SCADA-IoT on the Dual Conveyor Plant for Separating Metal and Non-Metal Materials

Abstract

The primary challenge in the utilization of Dual Conveyor Plant lies in the accuracy and efficiency of separating metal and non-metal materials, which are influenced by variations in characteristics such as size, shape, and composition. Other challenges include managing material buildup and preventing component damage due to overloading or improper separation. Without adequate supervision and monitoring, separation errors can reduce production quality and increase operational costs. This research proposes the implementation of SCADA-IoT for real-time control, monitoring, and cost-effective data collection. The use of a Siemens S7-200 PLC connected to SCADA-IoT Haiwell via Ethernet and smartphones through Wi-Fi (internet network) demonstrates the effectiveness of the system. The SCADA-IoT interface on the HMI and smartphones reflects the actual plant, facilitating monitoring and control. Testing confirmed that the system works well in material separation, with a stable connection between the PLC and SCADA-IoT. The 4G signal performance demonstrated a download, upload, and delay time of around 0.87 seconds, making it reliable for remote operations of the dual conveyor plant. Conversely, the EDGE signal performed poorly with an average download speed of 0.19 Mbps, an upload speed of 0.12 Mbps, and an average delay time of 3.67 seconds, making it unsuitable for remote operation of the dual conveyor plant.
