Abstract

Preservation of inheritance culture plays an important role in the context of sustainable development, especially in settlements in the old city located on the banks of the Mahakam River in Samarinda. These settlements face the challenge of guarding their cultural identity while adapting to the needs of modern development. This research aims to explore the connection between the preservation of inheritance culture and sustainable development, as well as analyze the role of public policy in supporting businesses related to this.

Using a qualitative approach, data was collected through in-depth interviews and participatory observation, which were then analyzed thematically. The research results show that the preservation of inheritance culture is not only important for preserving the local identity, but also contributes to sustainable development by increasing the power of tourism and creating job opportunities based on culture. Additionally, the role of public policy in supporting the preservation of culture is vital in building infrastructure that improves access and the well-being of the local community.

This research concludes that the integration between proactive public policy and the conservation of inheritance culture can help these old town settlements remain relevant and sustainable in the face of modern development dynamics. It also recommends a more holistic approach in planning development that takes into account the potential of local culture as an integral aspect of sustainable development strategy.
