Abstract

Flooding is one of the most frequent natural disasters occurring in various parts of the world, including Indonesia. Every year, floods cause significant material losses, damage to infrastructure, and even loss of human lives. High rainfall intensity, changes in land use, and inadequate drainage systems are often the main causes of flooding. Therefore, effective mitigation measures are necessary to reduce the impact of this disaster. One solution that can be developed is utilizing Internet of Things (IoT) technology to create an Early Warning System (EWS) for flood monitoring. At the heart of this system were the Ultrasonic Waterproof JSN-SR04T sensor and the ESP8266 microcontroller. The sensor, designed to withstand harsh conditions, measured water levels with precision. The ESP8266 acted as a conduit, transmitting these measurements to the cloud in real time. As the system began its work, it recorded a steady rise in water levels from 4.5 cm to 4.9 cm over 28 minutes, capturing crucial data that revealed the river^s behavior. This real-time data, accessible via desktop and mobile platforms, enabled the town^s flood monitoring team to stay informed and act promptly. Alerts were sent out, ensuring that authorities and residents were prepared for potential flooding.
