Abstract
In the latest survey results released by the Financial Service Authority in 2022 explained that the Islamic financial inclusion score in Indonesia is still at 12.12%, thus creating a large space for immediate improvement. In this study, we evaluated the large role of the Islamic Boarding School (ISB) business unit as a hub. We designed an empowerment model that is equipped with an implementation strategy and risk management. The empowerment model was built through a questionnaire survey process in 485 ISB business units- interviews with management in 14 business units, leaders in 14 ISB, management in 14 ISB cooperatives, management in 7 Islamic financial institutions- and involving 25 resource persons through FGDs. We found that the empowerment model requires continuous interaction between actors in the ecosystem and the role of cooperatives as another epicenter that acts as a product aggregator as well as an off taker. Another significant finding is the Decision Support System related to Government assistance intervention. We conclude that the ISB business unit can become a hub with the support of its ecosystem interactions.
