Abstract
Research on flood-prone areas based on geographic information systems in disaster mitigation efforts is very important because of the proliferation of existing development in the suburbs irregularly, resulting in disaster-prone cities. The purpose of the study is to determine the extent of flood-prone areas through mapping flood vulnerability so as to optimize disaster mitigation measures. The location of the research study is Palopo City. The research methods used are scoring and Overlay methods for 6 parameters for 5 categories of flood vulnerability. The results of the analysis of flood-prone areas in Palopo City show a flood-prone map with an area that is included in the vulnerable category (16.725.33 ha), the safe enough category (7,864.23 ha), the moderately vulnerable category (2,158.49 ha), the safe category (924.03 ha) and the very vulnerable category (71.92 ha). The resulting map provides information about areas that are prone to flooding to the Palopo City government, especially the Palopo City Regional Disaster Management Agency
