Design and Analysis of Nuts and Bolts on The Connection of Closure Head of Reactor Pressure Vessel for PeLUIt 40 Nuclear Reactor a) Applied Magister of Manufacturing Technology, Politeknik Negeri Jakarta Abstract Power and Steam Generators for Industry (PeLuIT-40) is a High-Temperature Gas-cooled (HTGR) type nuclear reactor. This reactor was proposed to meet industrial electricity and heat demand in Indonesia. One of the main components of PeLuIT-40 is the reactor pressure vessel (RPV). There are nut and bolt connections on the RPV^s closure head. The connection between the upper closure head and a cylindrical shell on the RPV should be sealed well-using nuts and bolts for safety reasons to prevent any leakages. The preliminary design of PeLuIT-40 is based on Indonesia^s Experimental Power Reactor Program (RDE) 10 MWt, and it has a total of 80 bolts on the closure head of the RPV. This study aims to optimize the number of bolts, calculate the load that applies to the closure head of the RPV, and analyze the von Misses stress on the components. For the design and analysis, ASTM SA 193 B7 with the M100 size was selected as the material for nuts and bolts, Inconel for the gasket, and SA 516-70 for the RPV (upper and lower flange). Finite element analysis by using the software was used to analyze the von Misses stress on the upper flange, gasket, and lower flange. As a result, the number of bolts needed is 44 bolts. This number is 45% less than the preliminary design. From the analytical result, the maximum von Misses stress of all the materials for nuts and bolts, gasket, and RPV had the maximum stress under the yield strength of each material.
