REPRESENTATION OF CHARACTER EDUCATION IN CHILDREN^S STORIES ^PINOKIO^ DAN ^ANAK GEMBALA DAN SERIGALA^ (ROLAND BARTHES STUDIES) (a, b, c, d) Indonesian Language and Literature Study Program, Faculty of Languages and Arts, Universitas Negeri Medan, Indonesia, * muharrina[at]unimed.ac.id Abstract The purpose of this study is to find out the ideology of the children^s stories ^Pinocchio^ and ^The Shepherd and the Wolf^ that the author wants to spread to his readers, especially children. This goal is motivated by the problem that the characters described by the author in the children^s stories ^Pinocchio^ and ^The Shepherd^s Son and the Wolf^ are deviant characters, namely liars. The ^liar^ character must be interpreted in depth to get values that build children^s character. The search for meaning uses the semiotic concept of Roland Barthes. The results of this study are the children^s stories ^Pinocchio^ and ^The Shepherd and the Wolf^ provide character education, which is about honesty. In this children^s story, the author wants to convey that honesty is a character that must be built from an early age.
